Demolition rules.

The familiar Edinburgh of my past is slowly but surely being eradicated stone by stone.
This blip shows the demise of the Chalmers Hospital with its long history, but which recently acted as an annexe to the nearby ERI when the latter was situated in Middle Meadow walk . It was a quiet, reserved sort of place and recently offered services such as Radiography and other procedures advocated by GPs.

Already bulldozed has been the adjacent Simpson Maternity Memorial Pavilion where 3 of my children put in an appearance. How lovely it was to occupy a ward overlooking the Meadows and the avenues of flowering cherry trees. That was a time when you were required to stay in hospital for 6 days rather than 6 hours.

On the other side of the Meadows, the Sick Children's Hospital is also scheduled for relocation to the new ERI campus at Little France. Hopefully the powers that be will not allow this iconic building to be razed to the ground, but will try and convert it into flats, maybe for the elderly. Then I will definitely be interested!

This afternoon I will be standing in the playground of the primary school next door to the Sick Kids, waiting to collect my Granddaughter. It has to be one of the coldest places on earth, not that the youngsters tearing round on bikes and scooters there with no coats on seem to think so.
Youth is a wonderful thing and yes, I think a flat for the elderly may beckon!

PS I hope the worker straddling the fence on the left knows what he is doing. It could hurt!
