Trees on the road

And it continues to snow!  We have close to 2 feet of snow now and it isn't showing any signs of stopping.  Our power went out around 8:30 last night and wasn't on when we got up this morning.  We were just getting ready to go out to shovel again this morning when our neighbour B called.  Thank goodness we still have a land line!  Our road had been plowed during the night, but there was at least another 5 inches on it.  Anyway, B had an appointment in Victoria and had planned to catch the 9:50 ferry, but 2 trees had come down across our road and he had to turn back.  G got out the chain saw and off the three of us went to clean up the trees.  There were lots more that were bent over and ready to snap, so G cut them down as well and B and I hauled them off the road after G bucked them.  Luckily they were fairly small alder.  It took a couple of hours.  When we got back in the house, I called hydro to get an update on the power outage and the recorded message said that the estimated time for it to be back on was 8 am Tuesday morning.  Out we went again to shovel the pad in front of the garage and paths to the woodshed and the well house.  G started the generator so we could get water and plug in the fridge - and then the power came back on.   Yay!!  It's been flickering off and on ever since, and with the weight of the snow on trees, I'm convinced that more will come down on the lines and the power will go off again.
The snow blower isn't working properly and the driveway is too long to shovel, so we likely won't be heading anywhere for awhile.  We do have snow tires and chains, but we don't really need anything.  Most of our neighbours have generators and the ones who don't know that they can come over for water if they need to.
No skiing today - dealing with downed trees and accumulated snow took priority.  I'm hoping to get on the skis again tomorrow.
I haven't seen this much snow in such a short time here since the blizzard of 1996.  That was an adventure - and I'll write about it soon.  I'm behind with comments and will catch up - when the power stays on!
