Crowned

This extraordinary structure sits above the Victoria Hotel in Rothesay. I had never really looked at it before today but my attention was drawn to it by a bird alighting as I was photographing something else nearby.

I presume there is a name for such an installation which must be Victorian I would have thought.

(Added later : David Mitchell, Historic Scotland's Director of Conservation and expert on all things decorative and iron , tweets that it is a "terminal" and sources the exact design to the 6th Edition of the 1882 catalogue from the Saracen Foundry.

A link to it is here . Thanks...)
