Windmill of Spital Tongues

So much history here in Spital tongues! This plaque is on the Chimney Mill, which can be seen from all around Spital Tongues.

The chimney mill was built in 1782, on the site of a previous windmill. It was the first 5-sail smock mill in Britain and is the only surviving smock mill in the region. It was wind powered until 1891 and was then decommissioned. The sails were removed in 1924 and fantail in 1933. It housed the clubhouse for Newcastle city golf club until 1975.
It's renovation began in 1976 and now it contains offices, one of which is currently for sale. If I won the lottery, I would be very tempted to buy this grade 2 listed landmark!
