Leazes park Vs St James Park

Leazes park is the oldest park in Newcastle, opening in 1873. In 1996, my family and I, were part of the local petition against losing some of the park to the plans St James Park had to extend their football stadium. I still believe green land is more important then football!
This photo is one of contrast. The park, trees and Victorian bandstand could have been photographed during any decade but the modern, metal football stadium towering above gives away an idea of the time.
Everyone is relaxing on benches as it was reasonably warm, yet dark clouds loom above, everyone hoping that they don't create a sudden spring downpour.
