Gunnera

Still in the garden I'm afraid and dodging ferocious hailstorms and biting wind. The gunnera is on the move and unperturbed. What a strange plant it is! The red thing with the odd tentacles coming out of it is a flower - biggify to see all the tiny heads. It will slowly open up and get polleny. What the tentacle thingies are though I don't know. The leaves are just unfurling but within a few months will be colossal - up to two metres wide and ferociously sharp. The whole plant will soar to about nearly three metres high! It loves the damp and is practically impossible to destroy. It can be highly invasive and considered a bit of a curse if it escapes. It has no use whatsoever as far as I can tell - you just have to admire it's weirdness and sheer size. It was also the subject of the first blip I ever did!

Watch one grow! I have to say mine's a lot bigger than Robin's!!

It's also muck spreading day in the fields next to us - maybe that's what's encouraging this beast!
