Red-letter Day

At long last, the journey which began here reached a sort of an end this morning. Having been switched from a monthly injection to a six-monthly one, today's was the final step of the hormone treatment for my prostate condition.

It will still be some time before we know if the treatment has been successful. I have an appointment with my radiation oncologist in three months time, when he'll review things on the basis of another blood test, but it won't be until a further six months after that, when the short-term effects of the hormone injections will no longer be affecting the blood test results, that a clear picture will emerge.

My doctor hadn't heard from the orthopaedic consultant about the osteoporosis problem, so I need to follow up about that. In the mean time, I've begun a course of vitamin D to begin to tackle the brittle-bone situation. And who knows when I'll get an appointment with a vascular specialist about the arterial calcification in my legs. But I mustn't let those complications get me down: today is still a red-letter day when it comes to the prostate, and we'll celebrate that while we're in France.
