2300 degree's F.....

This is what the peepholes in my kiln looked like about 1/2 hour ago, when i turned the kiln off, finally! It took many more hours that it should have, i guess the elements need replacing!!!

So the kiln went to what is referred to as Cone 6.....this is the term used to describe the temperature the pots have been fired to in this electric kiln. This kind of firing is called oxidation....as opposed to other types of firings; such as reduction, raku, salt, soda, wood.....it's one of the simpliest types of firing....you don't need to fiddle around with drafts, and oxygen etc. Now the kiln will be left to cool down very slowly, probably won't open it up until mid morning thursday, about 15-16 hours to cool to a reasonably safe temp. for me to unload them!

so, if there is no blip of pots tomorrow.....you know what's happened, they turned out ugly!!!! It is a bit like christmas, opening the kiln - especially when i'm exploring new colours and new decorating techniques - now i have to be patient!
