Holding it up!

Much of the day spent in Carlisle – hairdresser, shops and a few more shops. A lot of people about doing the same. It was while we were waiting in a queue at traffic lights that I took this picture of the massive iron bracing that one presumes helps to hold up the walls of Victoria Viaduct.

Victoria Viaduct was opened in 1877 and gave a high level route out of the city to the developing suburbs, carrying the road over the station and the many railway lines. (If you are interested, the location map shows this very clearly.)
