Union Canal En Fête

It seems a very long time since we walked to the canal, and so it was good to see that a welcome with bunting and sunshine was the order of the day.

It is well to remember that this little oasis of calm is not a mile from the centre of the city, and should you care to pedal or walk along this tow path and then join the Forth and Clyde canal towpath at the Falkirk Wheel, after about 40 miles you would reach the centre of Glasgow without having to resort to any roads.

I hate to admit that 40 miles of flat cycling with no hills to labour up or zoom down can be a tad boring, although one has to keep wide awake to avoid people, dogs and swans while taking care not to wobble off the narrow aqueducts and topple into the water.
