You Know, Some Days

Everything seems to go right, no matter what went wrong.

The two adults are off hunting and it's the turn of the juvenile (last years baby) to help out with watching the fledgling who is in a low tree after trying to fly (Not so much flying as plummeting).

This has been a real treat, it's like been in a David A' documentary as we get to watch these owls go though their rearing routines. They don't seem bothered by us at all, even when the chick was running along the trail trying to get some lift into those wings - not fond of dogs though. They have a few things to say about dogs, but they do seem partial to cats, as they did bring one in to feed the chicks.

Funny, I would normally have been horrified by that, but after seeing the poor little chick sitting in the tree too hungry to move for two hours and doing her little begging call, I kind of felt more sorry for the baby owl than the cat.

But it did make me realize that the owl and the pussycat are an unlikely pairing.
