Covering the opening of the potato shield

Our host gave us 10 kg potatoes which were in a shield 1.7 m under the ground. The  (door) opening to the shield  must be covered very well with board, straw, plastic and finally with snow.  Under the ground the temperature is more than 20 degrees warmer than outside.
