Blue Snow!!!

Ok, so any help from the very smart blippers out there would be greatly appreciated....

why is that there is this amazing turquoise hue to snow that has the following characteristics....very wet, heavy and has been plowed therefore clumped together into large mounds!
It's the same effect that seems to be visible when looking at huge icebergs!
The same snow, that just seems to be laying there, undisturbed doesn't display the same characteristics.....it's just white!!! And just as a note, it has been overcaste and cloudy most of the time!

I have been taking shots of this phenomenon now for the past 2 days here....and i'm totally intriqued! It's not only amazing but i find it so beautiful...there is a luminosity that happens deep within the crevasse created by the folding snow. Reminds me a bit of some of Georgia O'keefe's paintings!

anyway, i love the quality of the snow in this form, but am a bit puzzled!
