Blue Jays 4, Kansas City Royals 0

I went to the SkyDome today with my brother Ron and my friend Gord to see the red-hot Toronto Blue Jays play the fourth and final game of the series against the Royals. It was a very fast game - clocking in at 2 hours and 14 minutes. Our ace pitcher Mark Buerhle (9 wins, 1 loss which leads the major leagues) was on the mound. Here, late in the game and with the Jays leading, our star slugger and first baseman Edwin Encarnación prepares at the plate for what would be a home run - his first for June. For May, he hit a club record 16 home runs (old record was 14) and now shares with Mickey Mantle! Alas, the league record is 17 and held by Barry Bonds (but that's asterisked because of Bonds' steroid use). Edwin's been a good hitter but never this good. He's on a tear and is a big factor in the Blue Jays success this year. Pitcher Buerhle notched his 10th win of the season and is the only pitcher in the Bigs with 10 wins so far. Good times!

Yeah, I know it is not, technically, called the SkyDome anymore but it will always be SkyDome no matter what stupid name they stick on it.

Also in the photo are Royals' catcher Salvador Perez and umpire Larry Vanover. Boxscore. Today was Country Day and they were giving away 20,000 straw cowboy hats with the Jays' logo on a blue band. Good attendance (over 38,000 fans) and the weather was perfect: Sunny, 25C, and a slight breeze.
