A Spider Dreams of Flying

"For once you have tasted flight, you will walk the earth with your eyes turned skyward, for there you have been, and there you will always long to return."
- Leonardo da Vinci

We all have dreams. Some are big dreams. Some are just little ones. This Blip posting encourages the dreamers among us, especially the very little ones, and celebrates all of our dreams, even the big ones that at first seem most unattainable . . .

I was walking in the dandelion meadow at dawn, when I came upon a spider building a web atop a dandelion. The dandelion's days were passing. All that was left was one seed head with a fluffy top, and a partial seed. The spider was busily building a web between the two.

I watched a little while, thinking how ridiculous it was that he (or she!) hitched his wagon to such a movable star. How silly, little spider, when the first good breeze will . . . Oh, wait . . . hmm, perhaps that was exactly your intention!

When the gentle afternoon breezes come along, they will whisk your tiny aircraft aloft. Even the birds will envy you when they see you floating by, holding onto your bit of dandelion floof, floating out over woods and fields just like the sky pilot you are in your dreams.

Little spider, there is no such thing as too small a dreamer, only too small a dream.

The soundtrack: the Fifth Dimension, with Up, Up, and Away. For all of those who have ever dreamed of flying . . . And that includes me!
