The Chartist Cave

A good walk today to celebrate Max the dog’s birthday! You may remember Max from this blip.

He’s a lucky lad and had loads of treats, so did we as we had a party on the moor. Champagne, Scottish smoked salmon, delicious artisan bread and a birthday cake. The weather may have been atrocious but the good was lush!

The picnic actually took place at the mouth of the Chartist Cave. For you history buffs the Chartist Uprising in Newport in November 1839, saw the greatest armed clash between people and government of the 19th century. Over 20 people died during the uprising and also resulted in a mass treason trial. This cave is where the Chartists are said to have stored and stockpiled weapons leading up to the uprising.
