0804 to Leeds

"The army sits within the community, but really they’re part of the community. Rather than just stay isolated, we try to involve ourselves with the people, talk and interact with them.”
“What have you been doing today?”
“Well, it’s Armed Forced week so there was the raising of the flag just over there and across various other sites. It’s Armed Forces Day on Saturday, so that’s where it’ll all take place.”

When I stumbled upon this remarkable gent, I obviously asked about his medals and he pointed me towards some saying, “Those are for being in tours and things, and being there (in the army) for a long time really."

Minutes later some random bloke came up and asked the same question. Only then did he point out his MBE. Yes, that’s right, he is a Member of the British Empire, given to those rare individuals who show outstanding achievement in the community. Such a modest, professional and honourable human I’ve not met.
