Bass Rock

The Bass Rock is an island in the outer part of the Firth of Forth in the east of Scotland. It is approximately 3 miles north-east of North Berwick. It is a steep-sided volcanic rock, 107 metres (351 ft) at its highest point, and is home to a large colony of gannets. The rock is currently uninhabited, but historically has been settled by an early Christian hermit, and later was the site of an important castle, which was, after the Commonwealth, used as a prison. The Bass Rock Lighthouse was constructed on the rock in 1902, and the remains of a chapel are located there. The Bass Rock features in numerous works of fiction, including Robert Louis Stevenson's Catriona and The Lion is Rampant by contemporary Scottish novelist Ross Laidlaw.

Six of us were walking today on Lothian Edge in E. Lothian and it was a lovely high walk for part of the time, with views over to the Bass Rock.
The weather was beautifully warm and sunny, and we needed lots of liquid. We finished along the loch at Pressmennan, near the beautiful little village of Stenton. Headed after the walk to the village of East Linton for a few drinks before heading home. Tired tonight, but it was worth it!

Thanks a million to all you generous blippers who gave me stars and hearts for my blip yesterday of the flying horse and rider. You put it in the spotlight, and I am exceedingly chuffed and very grateful
