Nelson's Dockyard

J's birthday today. Hired a car and went for a tour around the island. Headed into the capital St John's to do a bit of B ‘day shopping. J managed to get some nice jewellery and a beach dress. From there it was over to find Devils Bridge on the East coast. This is part of the coast where the water has worn away the rocks to form a small bridge in the rocks. Took longer to get there than we thought as we missed a turning.
Headed over to Half Moon bay for lunch. BLT with cold chips and BBQ chicken drumsticks from the hotel. We were watched by three stray dogs who were looking very hopeful. The waves are a lot bigger over on this side of the island, as it on the Atlantic side, so much so there were a few kite surfers out.
From there it was over to Nelson's Dockyard. The dockyard has been renovated in recent years. It is still a marina and all of the buildings are being used to hold chandlers, sail makers and the customs people. Great to see how it would have looked all those years ago and to see its still being respected and used.
As it was getting late we quickly headed up to Shirley Heights. The main lookout and protection point for the entrance to the dockyard. Great views. Back home for a posh dinner and a few cocktails.
Happy birthday J
