Nellie Travels

I think that often things happen for a reason. The baby birds of yesterday went to my best friend Shela today to be looked after since I can't rear them when in Cornwall.

First of all it was amazing that Nellie found them and then brought them to me before they died. Then it is also amazing that I had to take them to Shela.

This blip is of her brother Peter who died far too young in his twenties. He was known as the bird boy of Lochaber and was constantly rescuing birds and being called upon by others to help. He was a kind gentle person with an amazing affinity for animals and birds in particular and right from school he knew he wanted to work with them. One of his jobs was working with the primates in Edinburgh zoo looking after them and helping to develop a living space which would stimulate them and keep them happy and relaxed. If he was here today he is the first one I would have taken the baby birds to.

Just recently Shela and her family released some butterflies that his mother had grown, at his grave. Just around this time the baby birds came into our lives....needed some looking after......and ended up with Shela.

It makes you think.

Update....they survived the night and were much perkier this morning. They have been fed a few times.....Mummy bird Shela had a pocketful of insects at one point today!!! Fingers crossed!
