Crocodile river.

The Crocodile river just beyond the Harbeespoortdam sluice gates. On the right hand side of the picture, you can see part of the Magaliesberg mountain. The sluice gates are just behind me, on the far left of the photo.

The Vaal river, the Northern parts of SA's biggest river is coming down and the Vaal dam is way over 100% ful, which made it compulsory to open 8 sluice gates there today, and that will have an influence on our Hartbeespoort dam which is about 100.66% full at this stage.

They opened five sluice gates this morning, it is quite a spectacular sight. R snr brought us here to take some photographs just after lunch today.

I blipped the same view last year on 6 February last year, just note how green the water was then, but there was only one sluice gate open that day, today's flow is much stronger.

We witnessed the drowning of a man in his thirties, just to the left of that waterfall you see coming from the right hand side of the mountain, about eight years ago. He was with his family, picnicking on that sandy area. They were swimming and he got drawn in by an unexpected current, while we were sitting with friends on the bank at the other side of the water. It was such a traumatic experience, his wife and little children, so desperately watching the emergency services trying to retrieve his body from the 'angry' waters!
