Northumberlandia, The Lady of The North

Today we drove to Northumberlandia, The Lady of the North, which is the worlds largest human landform structure. It is a piece of public art spread over 46 acres made of 1.5 milion tones of rock. She is a quarter of a mile long so her full figure can only be fully seen from the air (see the link for how she appears from above. Its a nice walk around the footpaths that swirl around her face and body. This pic shows her face & chest from the side, showing her profile (with many people walking on her!) It only took 10 minutes to drive from Newcastle and is free to visit.

After taking a walk around Northumberlandia we went to visit the market town of Morpeth for a wander. We went to the Old Cheese shop for some of our favourite Old Amsterdam, then popped in another shop for some baguettes and drinks. We then went to nearby Plessey woods and used the cheese and baguettes as our picnic. Afterwards we had a 2 mile walk around the paths and I took my camera and took lots of photos of butterflies along the way.

It'c currently Newcastle restaurant week, so lots of restaurants are offering 2 course meals for £10. Its a great excuse to try some new places to eat. Tonight we tried The Sausage Emporium which was pretty good. Afterwards we went for an evening walk around the city so that I could point out some points of interest to my non local husband and take some photos. We went across the High level bridge to see the other bridges on the Tyne, took a look at the castle and then walked around the back of the Cathedral to see the mysterious "Vampire rabbit" statue. Exhausted after so much walking! Took so many photos but can only blip one, so chose Northumberlandia as she is quite unusual.
