Ponga

There's nothing quite like standing under the canopy of a Ponga or Silver Tree Fern with the light filtering through the fronds.

Found throughout New Zealand, the Silver Tree Fern is an endemic species and is one of New Zealand's national emblems. I wonder if it will become our national flag, time will tell.

Scientific name: Cyathea dealbata
Common name: Silver Fern, Silver Tree Fern
Maori name: Ponga or Punga

Great day for walkabout, calm with a blue sky reaching a high of 14C after a frosty dawn.

Happy Sunday blippers :)
