Home & Away

Commune!

Across the road from me, living side by side, are two very lovely families with children of similar ages. They decided to set up their tents and camp out on the front lawn. From time to time they host neighbourhood parties and BBQs there, but this is the first time they decided to set up camp. Since they know I also like to sleep outside in a tent, they asked if I would like to join them and I agreed, without hesitation!

The original plan was to camp just last night, but we had so much fun that we decided to do it again tonight - it kind of felt like joining a commune! Last night it poured with rain right after we set the tents up but we huddled under the gazebo and still enjoyed the Pizza Hut delivery. The rain didn't last long. Tonight we actually Barbecued and invited some other (non camping) neighbours to join us. The weather was much better.

This morning (Friday) after being brought a cup of tea 'in bed', all 4 kids piled in my tent - plenty of room for all - plus Dolly! On Saturday morning, we finally broke up the camp, but then ended the 2-day commune with a late breakfast of bacon rolls, doughnuts and coffee.

We got some laughs and strange looks from neighbours, the Pizza delivery man and the postman (and probably the milkman who delivers in the night), but we had lots of fun and I hope it's a tradition we follow each summer.
