This is just from one side, too. The wall to the east is deep enough to be able to tell it to fuck off but the wall to the south is either not deep enough or sufficiently permeable to have allowed a root to escape into the adjoining garden. As a result the only solution is to remove the entire plant and hack/saw it into containable chunks. This will take some time.
