Serious earthmoving

This is a little bit of the upgrading to motorway of the A1 North.

Trying to take photographs from a car window whilst on the move, albeit slowly because of the roadworks, is really difficult, but I was trying to capture some of the huge excavations that need to be made to create roads – huge swathes of countryside eaten up so we can all get to places quicker. It doesn’t make a lot of sense and one cannot help but think that there must be another way.

But there we are, travelling up and down the motorways listening to the traffic updates reporting miles and miles of tailbacks, whilst adding to the congestion ourselves. Freedom to go where we want, when we want . . . but at what cost.
