Camping at Lake Chabot

The unexpectedly warm weather inspired us to grab our tent for a night of camping at Lake Chabot. Chabot's only about half an hour from our home in Oakland, and noises of the city mingle with screeches of great horned owls and the honking of Canada geese. There are a surprising number of wildflowers blooming already but still some winter mushrooms. We found a pond full of newts busy with mating. We saw an assortment of water birds as well. A lovely getaway!
