Friday: Towers of Kotor

We rescued a kitten today.  We were walking down the road when we heard some plaintive mewing above our heads.  After some bemused looking around, we discovered a kitten stuck up a tree.  The tree was too spindly and too thorny for us to climb so we had to look around for some other way to help.  Luckily, there was a slight elevation nearby, and a plank of wood, so we stemmed the plank against the tree so that the kitten could walk down.  K. held the plank and when the kitten was near enough for me to grab, I reached up and lifted it down (after prising its claws away from the plank).  It seemed pretty grateful.

The rest of the day was taken up with wandering around Kotor's twisty and turny streets, as well as a walk up the hill to the old fort.  K. was also brave enough to have a Montenegrin haircut.  We do like Kotor - for all it is a walled town, similar to what we see in Croatia, it has a very real feel to it.

Walking home tonight, we were trying to think what Kotor reminded us of.  The old town is one thing and is slightly set apart.  But walking outside the old part, in slightly more real areas, the balmy night air, cicadas and crickets, uneven pavements where you had to watch every step, flowery scented air and dilapidated buildings reminded us of something.  And then it came to is, that there was something vaguely Indian about it, so we have now renamed it Kol-Kotor......
