Happy Boy

Doors Open Weekend in Perth and we decided, after visiting Megginch Castle last September and enjoying it so much, to go back this year again. It has brilliant grounds which include an ancient orchard which is being rejuvenated, all the old varieties of apples, plums and pears being replanted so that they are not lost forever! There is also a walled garden with little raspberry bushes along one side which were delicious.

We took Ben with us and he had such a good time. There were French hens to feed, apples to eat from the trees in the orchard, big ripe raspberries plucked from the bushes. Trevor the horse to pat, help with the apple pressing, pumping the water pump, face painted and general boy stuff stomping around in the muddy puddles and racing round the gardens in the autumn sunshine.

What also makes this place special to me is that my grandfather was a gardener here in the 1900's when he was a young teenager. It was quite strange walking around knowing that I was walking in his footsteps.....

A lovely day.
