Edinburgh evening

It's such a brilliant time for late afternoon/early evening light right now. Photographing scenes around Edinburgh for my Blipfoto each day has brought me an appreciation of where the light is at different times of year. Our ancestors would have been much closer to that sense, that of time and the changing seasons.

This morning I was at a tourism briefing about our UNESCO World Heritage status. Although the World Heritage sites have grown in number, Edinburgh is significant because of the contrast between the Old and New Towns and the sheer number of listed buildings within the boundaries of the site. There are 4,500 listed buildings within the site and over 600 category A listed buildings. We held the morning meeting in the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Royal Terrace, which has been formed from 7 former townhouses. An interesting heritage.

This evening, I was at a reception in the "Devil's Advocate" - a restaurant and bar in the heart of Edinburgh's old town, by Advocate's Close. I was invited to look at some schemes which had been proposed for street furniture/ statuary in a collaboration between students from Edinburgh College of Art and the developer of the site. Interesting discussions ranged from whether the "Selfie" will continue as a social phenomenon to the developments of 3D printing to create exotic sugarcraft and chocolate... Always good to get out and about.
