Sandy Lyle

16.3C and cloudy with rain from time to time, mostly light. Light breeze. Forecast winds don't seem to have arrived here.

After a spell of rain from about 8am to 9am the forecast heavy rain and strong winds didn't materialise so Maeve the Deerhound and I took a chance and went down to the Championship golf course again. Dunhill Links Championship day two.

The crowd was much reduced from yesterday. I'm sure a combination of the weather and fewer top golfers, although sports celebrities were on the draw sheet for Carnoustie today. Sir Steve Redgrave and Sir Ian Botham (in very bright patterned trousers) for example.

I had looked at the draw sheet online before leaving the house and discovered that Darren Clarke and Sandly Lyle were due to tee off just after 10am. My blip is Sandy Lyle (in blue), a golfing hero of mine, standing with Chris Wood (in white) and Wood's caddie on the first tee at Carnoustie. You might notice from the small scoreboard that Sandy's amateur partner was Don Felder, formerly a guitarist with the Eagles.

Maeve and I had a short walk after lunch. By then the rain had returned.
