It's Grim Up North

I love this door. It's been a Lancaster landmark for decades. Generations of students have lived behind it.

It leads to a first floor flat.

Music used to flow down the stairs, out of the door and onto the pavement. Throws and beads wafted at the windows and marijuana plants mingled with cheese plants on the window ledges. No doubt there were mice and cockroaches.

It appears deserted now.

Student life has moved on and the city continues to fill up with blocks of student flats, each room with an en-suite bedroom and a Tesco Express on the ground floor. But if you had to pay £9000 a year in tuition fees, would you want to slum it in the old flat above the post office?
