Mont Orgueil Castle

First full day on Jersey, and the weather is hot and sunny.

We took the bus to Gorey Harbour..... a lovely little village with the castle overlooking the harbour. Had a walk up to the castle and around the harbour, then had some coffee sitting out in the sunshine at the harbour.

Then we walked to St. Catherine's Bay with its massive breakwater enclosing it n the northern side. This was built in 1847 or thereabouts as a naval base but the waters were too shallow and it was abandoned. However, we walked out the half-mile of the breakwater to the lighthouse at the end, and then back to the cafe for a nice lunch.

We took a bus back to St. Helier, and walked out on the causeway at low tide to Elizabeth Castle, a Tudor stronghold which defended the island for over 300 years. There is an amphibious vehicle which goes out to the castle when the causeway is under water, but we were able to walk over and back.

A good day with a lot going on....... we had a quiet dinner and evening back at the hotel.
