Meeting In Silence

This painting hangs outside the Quiet Room at Woodbrooke Quaker College. I'm here this weekend for a meeting of Quaker Life Representative Council and the Quiet Room is where our morning Meetings for Worship have been held.

It's by John Perkin, who was a member of Newbury Meeting. John was interested in the visual impact of light (as an artist), in the science of light (as a research physicist) and as a spiritual metaphor. His paintings form a joyful body of work. He very generously made some of his pieces freely available for Friends; paintings of his can be seen at other Quaker centres including Swarthmore Hall, Charney Manor and Friends House.
