Lake Lure Hummer

In order to recuperate from all the time spent in the car the last few days, we decided to stay close to the condo today.

When I say "close to the condo" that's all relative since we still put some mileage on the car. As I mentioned yesterday anywhere you travel in this area requires distance.

Today we went to Chimney Rock, NC, which is just west of Lake Lure. Chimney Rock is wonderful little tourist trap town that is quite bustling on a Sunday. We didn't even get out of the car, just drove on through.

On the return trip we stopped back at the Flowering Bridge garden for some more pictures.

Boy, am I glad we did! While standing in the butterfly/hummingbird section of the garden I spotted a hummingbird on this bush. All of our hummers at home had already left our area, so I was thrilled to be able to photograph this beauty. As far as I can tell, she is a female Ruby-throated Hummingbird.

Later on after supper we went down to the lake at our resort and walked to the end of the dock. While feeding the fish a newlywed couple came down from the restaurant for some wedding photos on the dock. We sneaked a few photos, too! It was a lovely end to a equally lovely day.
