Wrong time

Even though there was no sun today my sundial would have been unable to indicate the time without changing the tilt and location. The low angle of the sun at noon prevents the rays from reaching the dial and the hour change today means it would have registered an hour later. At just over nine and a half hours daylight we now have eight hours less than in mid June.

The wind is howling and the rain lashing down and the forecast for the next few days with "a month's rain" forecast to fall within a very short period has had us hunting out our waterproof trousers so that we can enjoy four days with the family. Daughter#2 has just phoned to inform us that landslides have completely blocked the nearby main road just north of their rented cottage, and so preventing them from exploring our planned area for Wednesday. Meanwhile the southeast of England is forecast to have very warm sunny weather so I think they have chosen the wrong area for the half term holiday but in good weather few places can beat their chosen location.
