Loughborough Carillon

Situated in Queen's Park, Loughborough Carillon was built as a war memorial to the fallen from 1914 onwards and the wreaths for the recent Remembrance Service can be seen in this photo. Standing at 151 feet (46 metres) high, capped by copper dome, the carillon contains 47 bells, cast by the nearby John Taylor bellfoundry.

Unfortunately for us the recitals, every Thursday and Sunday, take place only in the summer months. However, nearby is the Charnwood Museum, where we enjoyed the cafe and discovered interesting new facts about the area, including that the Romans had made bricks and tiles in my home village!
