The Downhill Racer off again.

Since middle December 2009, when Johann and George left on the fateful trip for the Baviaanskloof, Johann has not gone off on another long journey again. It has taken some time to get the bike fixed, and then there were four ribs that had to mend as well. The ego did not seem too much affected.

So, today, his comrade in arms is Werner, and orthotist and perhaps a good choice as riding pal. At least Werner might know how to set a broken leg? Or at least to detect broken limbs ...

I need to say that Johann's former riding pal, George, did a remarkable job in helping Johann on the day of the accident. His help in getting Johann to the top of the abyss as well as retrieving the bike and panniers will always be very much appreciated and remembered.

Roundabout eight this morning when Johann left, it was wet, but more from a dew-like drizzle than real rain.

They are off to the Eastern Cape, and are heading first of all for Willowmore - a small country town next to the main road to the Transvaal. The day before yesterday, Willowmore had a cloudburst and apparently lots of damage had occured to the local roads. So, this time may even develop into a slip and slide occasion ..

As usual, they plan to travel back roads which mean dirt roads, but that bring them to places rarely seen by the average traveller. Tonight they will stay over in Nieu Bethesda, then travel further through Steytlerville,and after that head for Hogsback, a very scenic destination..

All going well, the road warriors should be home by Sunday afternoon ...
