Hobbs's Run

Hydro #4

Let's start with the last view. We head off to the right moving around the pavilion and walking on for about 200 metres. We find ourselves standing outside the wonderful old "casino" foyer building which is the main guest entry to the complex. It is an ornate late Victorian italianate wedding-cake structure which was shipped from Chicago in the early 1900s and assembled by 1903.

The casino has served a number of functions going back over the years, including a theatre for live productions. It was the venue for the first performance of Dame Nellie Melba's famously-long farewell tour in 1928. The next few Hydro blips will show you more of the casino, including some interior views.
