Day 14 - Oklahoma City, OK to Amarillo, TX

Started the day in the stockyards in south west OKC. Heavy fog covered the city which was a change to weather experienced so far.Breakfast in the Cattlemans Steakhouse although we both resisted the various steaks on offer (unlike others around us). The usual fascination with where the hell were we from and what were we doing there?! Then to downtown OKC and the memorial to the 1995 bombing. Extremely moving, beautifully presented. I remember it being reported on TV. Final stop was the State Capitol building where - as usual - we were were given free reign to just mope around and have a nosey.

West on the I40 and along the way got off the interstate to travel on some of the old Route 66 and see the towns it went through. Various buildings and towns along the way in various states of repair. The old garage in Shamrock was in exceptional condition though and the lady from the town chamber of commerce made us most welcome.

Entered Texas and the weather changed immediately. Clear blue skies and the temperature increased to nearly 20c - weird! Arrived in Amarillo (resisting the temptation to stop and ask for directions - "is this the way to Ama...."). Dinner in the local stake house was sublime - perfectly cooked slabs of beef for both of us with a glass of Texas red wine. Then over the road to the local cinema to see Interstellar to round off the day.
