Cows

Per day - 110kg of grass, 50 litres of water (purely for drinking, before you even irrigate) all to make somewhere between 22 and 30 litres of milk (per day). I have heard that after irrigation you can be looking at 50 litres of water, per litre of milk.

Anyway, today was the open "Farm Day" at Lincoln Universities dairy farm. Have to say, awesome experience and great for kids to see what goes into the production of food we literally eat or drink every day. Other amazing facts, this sector accounts for around 20% of NZ's total GDP.

Then home for lunch, and then another afternoon of chainsawing. All tress chopped up, wood stacked. Very satisfying, and tiring!
