Manzanita

Manzanita in Spanish means "little apple", and you can see why. This shrub grows in chaparral throughout much of California. Native Americans used manzanita for teas, cider and dyes, among other uses.

I took this shot in Huckleberry Nature Preserve on a walk organized by the East Bay Regional Park District. There were some wildflowers, lots of spring growth. A very lovely spring so far here in the Bay Area.
