Trench Art

Here is a blip of a letter opener made in 1916. These pieces are referred to as Trench Art and encompass a whole variety of objects, crafted by soldiers, from discarded items like bullet and shell casings.

The items range from the very simple to the highly decorative and many are clearly made by skilled artisans who, given spare time in the trenches, fashioned these keepsakes of battle.
