Great Black-backed Gull--with Fish!

I didn't get out for long today, since I'm nursing a stiff neck. But on the beach in Yarmouthport (on Cape Cod), I came upon this large adult gull, tugging the last bits of flesh off a fish nearly as big as him. Judging by the fish's appearance it had probably been serving as food for others for quite a while.

The Great Black-backed Gull (Larus marinus), averaging 30 inches, is our largest gull, and is often an aggressive predator, harassing other birds for their food, as well as preying on their eggs and chicks. It's found along the Atlantic coasts of North America and Europe.
