The rabbits and I along with a few crows searching for a breakfast on overnight road kill, had Braid Hills Road all to ourselves this morning. Generally this is a very busy road as it connects Fairmilehead to Liberton, but there was no traffic at this early hour, and with the sun well risen and the tranquillity, it was possible to stop and admire the panoramic views extending from Craighouse and beyond to the west and North Berwick Law to the East. To the north, beyond the Forth, Fife was clear.

It's a high road, caught between Blackford Hill and the Braid Hills Golf Course, so that you might think you were out in depths of the country, were it not for the fact that the Castle and the southside of Edinburgh are laid out in front of you, a patchwork of grey roofs , some red ones and punctuated by numerous church spires including, in the distance, St Giles Cathedral.

I said good morning to 17 horses standing quietly in a field beside the road, and thought to take their photo only to discover my camera battery was still in the charger at home.

It has been suggested that I should blip some of my mementos that I'm finding hard to part with. And so today the blip is of one of a series of peg dolls made by daughter# 1 when she was about 13. There are about 10 altogether, but this one, of a gypsy lady selling her wares, is the most complicated. In BIG you can see everything she has in the tray round her neck.
