Mums on the Run

I assume the name was chosen for it's rhyming or alliterative qualities rather than its descriptive accuracy. They hadn't even planned to run although it turns out that one or two of them took the calculated assessment that running might marginally decrease their level of drookitness.

I think this is the most everyday photograph I've posted here. But it's all in a good cause. A group of women marshalled by Catherine (third from the left pushing my wee grandson Anthony) walking the 10k of the Race for Life with their weans. Mandy (front and centre, as ever) was humphing Ellen, reckoning that her back and hips are stronger than her hands and that she'd find carrying easier than pushing. Anyhow, each of them has been touched by cancer in some way or another so they were walking to support Cancer Research and in remembrance of the relatives they've lost. Mandy has lost three aunts to cancer in the past two years, although her mum survives after 16 years. So they did it, along with thousands of others running, walking, pushing prams etc. Very impressive to see and quite poignant, with many of them sporting wee signs to say who they were taking part in remembrance of.

I'll shamelessly give a link to Mandy's Just Giving page, should you feel the urge.
