Put-in-Bay

A great get-a-way for some family fun is a day trip to Put-in-Bay, one of the Lake Erie islands. We've gone there before with the kids, and they were looking forward to riding the ferry, renting bikes to bike around the island, and testing their driving skills in the racing cars. Here the group is at the marina where we discovered an extra treat. On Put-in-Bay visitors can tour Perry's Monument, which commemorates the Battle of Lake Erie in the War of 1812, when Admiral Perry in his ship Niagara defeated the British (I hope I have the facts straight). This weekend the (reconstructed) Niagara was docked at Put-in-Bay for the commemoration of that battle. The home base for the Niagara is Erie, Pennsylvania. About 8-10 years ago we toured it there with our two oldest grandson's when we took them to Toronto.
