Holy Spirit Hospital, Nuremberg

- Backblip - Nuremberg : Day 2

We had a walking tour around the old city today. A very informative guide, originally from Glasgow who has lived here for 38 years. We really began to see how the city has been rebuilt since the war, retaining old features where possible.

This hospital is built over the river Pegnitz. It was founded in 1332 and was one of Europe's largest hospitals in the Middle Ages. It has a number of wings surrounding a central courtyard. It is now an old people's home and a restaurant. We were able to go inside and admire the architecture and statues.

Other places which impressed me were the New Museum with a whole wall of glass reflecting the old buildings beside it, and the National Museum with the Human Rights Memorial.
