ST ANNES

Today the Engineer and I travelled 120KM s/w of Christchurch to visit friends living on a farm just out of Geraldine. This lovely little church is on their north boundary within sight of their house.
Unfortunatly the light was very dull and avercast so not the best for photography.

Built in 1863, St Annes Church is the oldest in use in South Canterbury. The timber used in the building is Matai,Kahikatea and Totara felled from the bush behind the church. Orgnally the roof was of Totara shingles. The inside timber rafters and pews still bear the marks of pit saw and adze whilst the interior walls are original clay and tussock pug.
