Goooaaaaallll!!!!!

Our school 5-a-side footie team scored tonight for the first time this season. You can just see the ball going past the keeper in a yellow blur.

OK, it's a rubbish out of focus shot but you have no idea how momentous this goal is!

My better half, Steven, coaches the team and most saturday evenings throughout the winter are spent at the indoor league. Our school has around 20 or so pupils. And only 12 of the kids go to football training so Steven doesn't have a huge pool of players to choose from. Unlike some of the bigger schools which have enough kids that they can choose the best and have 3 or 4 teams.

The plus side is, if you come along to training you'll get to play in the team. Steven rotates the team so that all the kids get to play, maybe not every week but they all get to play at some point.

The down side, we tend to get beat... a lot!

For the last 2 years we have been the proud holders of the wooden spoon. But the kids are brilliant, they keep turning up and try their hardest. The amount of support they get from other coaches and supporters is huge, everyone really admires their spirit.

So tonight, after weeks of almosts and nearlys that ball hit the back of the net and the place went wild. Cheers, applause, stamping of feet, whoops of delight. You would have thought we'd won the world cup. The kids were over the moon. So was Steven!

We didn't win, it was 3 -1 when the whistle blew. I think the kids were so stunned to have scored that it threw them totally. But nobody cared, we got our Christmas wish... for just one goal.

And Happy Birthday to Dieseldaisy!
